Welcome to the AIRPA WebsiteThe Defense Base Closure and Realignment Act of 1990, as amended, places responsibility for base reuse planning in the hands of the Local Redevelopment Authority (LRA). The Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment has recognized the Aquidneck Island Reuse Planning Authority (AIRPA) as the entity responsible for the planning the redevelopment of Naval Station (NS) Newport surplus property located on Aquidneck Island, RI.
